The Davison – Richfield Fire Department was founded in 1893 with one station in downtown Davison, serving the City of Davison, Davison Township and Richfield Township. In 1972 all three municipalities created the Davison – Richfield Fire Authority formalizing the long-standing intergovernmental cooperation and establishing a governing body for all fire and rescue activities in the Davison area.
For 121 years the Davison – Richfield Fire Department protected and served the 72 square miles that is the Davison area solely from Station One on Main St. That all changed with the opening of Station Two in September 2014. With a full time Fire Chief and 22 paid on call officers and firefighters, both stations respond together to emergencies across the Davison area, as well as, providing mutual aid responses to Genesee, Lapeer, Oakland, and Tuscola counties. The Davison – Richfield Fire department responds to an average of between 400 and 500 calls for emergency service per year. Officers and firefighters train every Wednesday, and many take additional training classes throughout the county and state each year.
Our officers and firefighters receive hundreds of hours of initial firefighting and medical training, as well as, many hours of advanced fire officer training. Additionally, all employees receive countless hours each year in fire and medical continuing education training. All of this is accomplished while balancing full time jobs and family obligations.
